The Latest News from The Home of K-Pop
BTS' Jungkook gave a short peek at all of the hard work that goes into creating a BTS' performance with his latest GCF video, which took a look at the group's "IDOL" stage for the MMA's.
His solo practice video showed the group practicing buchaechum (부채춤) and talchum (탈춤), both traditional Korean dances. Buchae (부채) in Korean means fan. Buchaechum, known as the fan dance, is a traditional Korean dance using fans where group of dancers perform together to create shaped images like birds, butterflies, flowers and waves. Typically, buchaechum is performed by group of female dancers.
Talchum originally started as a ritual dance for good energy to flow in and then became a source of entertainment mainly for lower class people. The performers wore masks to symbolize people, animals or the supernatural, and often many dance dramas included mimics of the high class.
Other traditional dance performances during this MMA stage included samgomu (삼고무), Korean drum dance, sajachum (사자춤), Lion dance, and samul nori (사물놀이), Korean traditional percussion music. BTS dressed up in hanbok, a Korean traditional costume and showcased Korean traditional dance performances, adaptingthem to "IDOL".
At the 2018 MMA's held on December 1, BTS took seven awards home: Best Artist of the Year, Best Album of the Year, Top 10 of the Year, Best Rap/Hip-Hop, Kakao Hot Star, Global Artist and Netizen Choice. Congratulations, BTS!
